Why We Built This Site
Colorado gives the public broad access to court records under the Colorado Open Records Act (CORA, C.R.S. § 24-72-201 et seq.), the Colorado Criminal Justice Records Act (CCJRA, C.R.S. § 24-72-301 et seq.), and Chief Justice Directive 05-01 on public access to court records. The hard part is figuring out which office holds the file you want. The Combined Courts Clerk at the Douglas County Justice Center (4000 Justice Way, Castle Rock) handles District Court cases (felony, family, civil, probate) and County Court cases (misdemeanor, traffic, small claims) for the 23rd Judicial District. The Douglas County Clerk and Recorder - a separate elected county office at 301 Wilcox Street - handles marriage licenses, recorded real-estate documents, and other county filings, not court files. The Sheriff manages the jail roster and active warrants. Add the Colorado Judicial Branch and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, and the picture gets crowded fast. We pull together the contact details, search portals, fee schedules, and request steps for each of these offices into one place.

This is a privately run reference site. We have no connection to any Colorado court, clerk's office, sheriff's office, or state agency. There are real limits to what we can help with:
- We cannot file paperwork or send records requests on your behalf
- We cannot issue certified copies of any court document or vital record
- We cannot give legal advice or explain how a specific case applies to you
- We cannot guarantee that every phone number, fee, or address listed on this site is current right now
Only the issuing court or government office can provide a certified copy with an official seal. We can point you to the right office, but the document has to come from them.

Keeping Information Current
Clerk offices move. Hours change. Phone numbers get reassigned. We update pages as we hear about changes, but gaps happen. Castle Rock runs on Mountain Time, so check business hours before you drive over. Before you head to a courthouse, call ahead first. Court data on this site comes from the Colorado Judicial Branch and the Douglas County offices listed above - we do not host the underlying records ourselves.
